Microsoft Is Said To Close Feature Phone Business And Sell The Nokia Name To Foxconn

As we already know, BlackBerry 10 OS is gradually fading out as BlackBerry CEO recently confirmed that they won’t be producing phones running blackberry 10 OS anymore. Instead, you’d be sticking with producing android phones.

Something related might be hitting Nokia soon. But wait, before you give me that look, it’s currently just a rumor.

According to the rumor which tend to be coming out of China, Microsoft is closing the Nokia division and will license the Nokia name to contract manufacturer Foxconn.

As we probably already know, Microsoft acquired Nokia devices and services in 2014 and according to the terms of acquisition, Microsoft owns the right to use the Nokia name for smartphones until 2024.

As earlier stated, this is just a rumor and should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. However, if this will come to limelight, then there will be quite a number of lay offs. When Microsoft acquired Nokia, around 18,000 employees were laid off. If the division will be sold to Foxconn as rumor suggests, that number of laid off employees will be rising.
